Better

Today is a bit better.  I’m still hurting, but it’s not quite as bad.  At least I got up and got dressed this morning.  I’m just having a very difficult time moving.  But it’s better, and that’s a good thing.

rn

I’ve been fighting with myself over something.  I know breakfast is important, but…  Ok, here’s how it is.  If I get up in the morning and don’t eat breakfast, and don’t eat anything all day, I can eat a sensible dinner and not overdo and I’m good.  When I eat breakfast I’m hungry all day!  I’m constantly fighting with myself to keep from grabbing something and eating it.  I can drink my water, drink coffee or Crystal Lite and not even want anything to eat, til I take that first bite, then the battle is on!!  It doesn’t matter whether I’m at home, on the road, out shopping or what, if I eat breakfast, I’m craving food the rest of the day!  The only exception is if I have a big breakfast like this weekend.  Then I don’t get hungry until late in the evening, when I really shouldn’t be eating.

rn

I’ve tried guzzling my water, chewing gum, sucking on hard sugar-free candies.  That doesn’t help.  I need to find some kind of middle ground.  I’m going to try different foods for breakfast, in the hope of finding something that will be filling and sustain me, without using up most of my points.  So far I’ve not had any luck.  No matter what I eat, my stomach is growling an hour later (with the exception of that big breakfast).  The same thing happens after lunch.  I eat lunch and an hour later my stomach is growling.

rn

So for now I’m gonna start experimenting with different foods and keeping a record of how I feel an hour, two hours, even 3 hours after I eat them.  I’m gonna find the one food (or combination of) that I can eat and not feel hungry an hour later.  I don’t care if they’re conventional breakfast foods or not.  If I can eat a sensible portion and it sustains me for several hours, then that will be my breakfast food.  And if anybody has any suggestions, they’ll be very welcomed!!!

rn

I didn’t eat breakfast this morning.  I had a bowl of potato soup for lunch, and I am feeling full from it.  Let’s see how long that lasts.

rn

Now for another challenge.  Friday night Micheal is taking his crew out for a motivational dinner, and I’m expected to go.  We’ll be going to an Indian restaurant.

rn

All of the people working for Micheal are Indian (I’m talking about from India, not Native American) and all but one are vegetarians.  I’ve only been to an Indian restaurant twice, and the food was great, but that’s been almost a year ago!  And if I’m not mistaken, most of the food is very low calorie and low fat!  If anybody knows any different, please let me know.  I do know that most Indians are skinny, and the ones we have had dinner with in the past were big eaters, so I’m hoping I won’t have to worry too much about what I eat.  Well, there is one thing I’ll have to watch out for…fried plantains!  Those are soooo gooood and totally irresistable.  They can’t be good for my diet cuz they’re fried in butter!  But if I can restrict myself to just a couple of bites I should be ok there.

rn

As I said I was going to do yesterday, I left dinner up to Micheal.  He brought home chicken, potato salad and slaw.  But I didn’t do too bad.  I managed to stay within my points allowance.

rn

I’m just trying to make this work.  I’ve found myself struggling lately and I need to get back on solid ground.  I don’t know how my weight is doing.  I haven’t been able to weigh myself since I’ve been in Minneapolis, and won’t get to again til I get back home next week.  I’m hoping I at least maintained, though I am a bit concerned about it.  I said concerned, not worried.  If I have gained, I will get it off.  I have to.  I’ve come this far already and I can’t go back to where I was or worse.  That’s just not a possibility.

rn

By the time I get back home our insurance will be in effect so if I have to I’ll find a doctor and see what my options are.  Maybe a doctor can recommend a diet that I won’t have to struggle with so much.  And sometimes insurance will pay for dieticians, nutritionists and physical trainers if a doctor recommends it.  Those are possible options I’ll look into.  Maybe the insurance will pay for a health club that has a pool I can use!!  Now that I can handle!

rn

Ok, so that’s my day.  How’s yours going?

rn

And remember:  Don’t let a little slip ruin your trip!!!

    Hey Mary,

Ok, here’s the thing. The reason you feel hungry more quickly when you have breakfast is that it gets your metabolism going! My DH has the same problem but his dr said that he needs to eat. Then if he gets hungry early, he can have a healthy snack (fruit or nuts or something healthy–even a couple of pieces of cheese). Protein sustains you longer than carbs–whole grains work better than refined, and so on.

For breakfast every day, I have a WW muffin (1 pt), with 6 slices Hillshire farm deli select lunch meat (1pt) and a piece of cheese (2 pts–only cuz I don’t like FF cheese) or 1/8 cup of cheddar or something (1pt). I also spritz the muffin w/ butter spray (zero pts) and it’s yummy–and fills me up.?I toast it in the oven for ten minutes, then put it all together and YUM!

I usually have to remind myself to eat lunch. Sometimes I have fruit w/ it too.

Anyway, you gotta do what works for you, but not eating enough will not give you sustainable weight loss. You know this. And it will drag your metabolism down so quick…

I know you can do this, Mary. I love the idea about logging and figuring out what food works for you. That is very smart because every person’s body is unique and it doesn’t really matter what works for me if it doesn’t work for you. Keep up the great work girl!!
    Hugs,

    Angie

ps I’m glad you’re on the mend. Keep taking it easy until you’re all better!!

Way to go being open minded about how to keep track of how you have been feeling!? I can’t tell you much about indian food since I haven’t had it much.? I hope you find something good!

I agree with Angie she is right!!!? Just eat more meals a day but small ones to get you through.? One meal a day is not good at all.? 6 small meals a day is great!? I’m sure you will figure it out because you are determined to do this thing.? Great job Mary!!!

I also would do more smaller meals~??? Glad to hear you are doing better~?? hugssssss

Ditto Angie’s comments!? Oatmeal works for me, but I eat three meals a day, and fruit for snacks.? I like the idea of journaling what food works for you.?

Have a great time this holiday.? I am glad to hear that you are feeling better.? Take care.

It sounds like you have awesome metabolism for your food to burn off that quickly.? Maybe if you do eat smaller meals more frequently like maybe eat half of what you usually do for breakfast and then eat the other half about an hour or so later.? Good luck! Your doing great!

    Mary Berry,

    ?

From what I can see from your blogs you are eating well and staying in range for the most part so I don’t think you should be to concerned although I know that is easier said then done…Just keep doing as well as you have been and it will work out.

    ?

I’m glad you are feeling better and I was going to suggest maybe you should try water areobics for exercise I hear that is suppose to be great for people that have a lot of? body pains.

    ?

I second Luella, oatmeal. Not the instant either. That has all kinds of junk in it that you dont want or need and with a microwave the regular is just as easy. I put just a tad of brown sugar on and have a glass of skim milk and we are off to the races!! I also like to dip plain toast in my oatmeal. Grits and cream of wheat may not be a bad idea either. See what happens..

This may sound crazy to you, but more often than not I eat dinner for breakfast. I am usually not hungry anymore in the evenings, so I save my dinner for breakfast. I agree with Angie, protein will keep you going longer. I read once that the longer it takes something to digest the longer it staves off hunger. Your body has to work much longer at processing a chicken breast that a bowl of cereal, you know?

I think it’s a great idea that you’re going to try different things.? You know what, you were so on in your advice for me to increase my range.? It’s all about working with what works for you!? If you can eat lunch and then have a better eating day from then on, I ask, why not?? If after trying everything, you keep not eating well after eating breakfast, maybe breakfast is not your meal.? I always take the minority position on things but my approach is, everyone is different and there are so many different messages out there that you just have to use common sense and do what works best for you.?

Mary hunny, I hope you feel better soon…I always worry when you get your debilitating pains…I will pray for your speedy recovery.

As far as the breakfast thing…I can relate….it sucks that I can relate, but I can…I wish I could help there, but I too, am a breakfast moron!? LOL!!

You know, I read your journal about how Michael brought home chicken and now, for the life of me, I can’t get KFC out of my mind!! Argh!!?

I hardly ever eat…I can probably count the times I’ve had it in the last 2 years, but I know me, once I have it, I’ll want more!!

Anyhow, like I said, I hope you feel better soon!
